8 Years later and this scam is still going
Scam!? Look, just because they took down the Squadron 42 game from their store for an entire year and haven't talked about it at length since that decision and the feature-locked Star Citizen isn't any closer to release, doesn't mean they are scamming their fanatical player base!
The best way I can think of to describe the time travel is it's timelines. There was no Hitler, ever, in either timeline we see. Einstein did that already, and when someone is removed from the timeline they're *removed*, not just from then but entirely. In the 'original' there was no young painter named Adolf. So when the soviets went back, now in this timeline there never was a Hitler, and there never was an Einstein. (Future Tech are the ones who in turn come up with all the cool tech Hitler did like the chronosphere, and time travel. It's implied they're run by time travellers too...) As for how the Empire invaded from the west... uh... time travel teleport shenanigans! :D It's like when you wonder how the USSR invaded the USA from the *east* coast in the second game I guess?
I do like the inversion of the invasion intro... while Red Alert 2 had the soviets invading the USA backed to Hell March and a line of all their forces.. this time it has the Empire... invading the *Soviets*, backed to Hell March. Plus Tim Curry selling the whole "You moron, timeline changes!" at the confusion about nuclear weapons not existing. He gets it immediately. No wonder he ends up the Premier! (Really, he's the premier because all the leaders of the factions were elected on the quality of their ham and scenery chewed per line. All the acting is over the top but the three of them are gloriously so)
I think the AI was supposed to try to recapture the facility, not destroy it - that is why they didn't attack it.
Funny that this Red Alert feels less like... Red Alert, and more like Advance Wars. It's just TOO cheesy and feels less like hated enemies doing battle and more like rivals in a card game.
Ah the twinblade, so overpowered it becomes boring.
Why in the world would they develop new technology in Greece?!? It's so freaking close.
It's quite easy to micro the subs, especially if you've ever played RA1.
Akula sub is probably the strongest navy fighter in the game. Does a ton of damage and has a lot of hp, plus the ability does extremely high damage and can make it win any 1v1 easily. Yeah you have to position yourself well but having to micro a bit for a big payoff is not a downside in my eyes.
I can appreciate the argument for 1v1, but it's special ability is a miserable thing to use in groups, haha!
@JobboFett Fun fact, the torpedoes have infinite range. There is technically nothing stopping you from cheesing enemies on the water by aligning your subs outside of their aggro range and blindfiring torpedoes. Do with this as you will.
@@martinhorenovsky5016 That sounds rather broken!
I dislike RA3 as much as I love RA2
Not even any Nova-6 in those bunkers, what a rip! This is Rebirth Island in the Aral Sea, where's the Nova-6!?
Stingrays are probably so squishy to balance them out. Their main upside is the versatility - doing decent damaged to vehicles/structures, great damage vs infantry (usually 1-shotting them) AND ability to traverse land and sea makes them jack-of-all-trades in a way. If they had more armor/more damage they would have been broken.
Most likely, yeah. Unfortunately, the Soviets don't have much to work with in terms of naval units on this mission, which I think makes it worse
Just started watching...ROF on an ATR ??
Yup! The Italians and Japanese both have one like that, in the 20mm calibre range!
9:00 "I don't like boobs" Seriously? I think your line at the end sums it up. "It's fun to look at but not necessary."
God I miss Westwood style fmv!
Yeah they did Krukov dirty in this game. He could have been a really cool character but instead they decided to make him an unlikeable, incompetent buffoon.
Dirty like a Dirty Traitor!!!
Natasha _can_ swim. You are thinking of Boris from RA2:YR. He was unable to swim.
Yeah we see Natasha swim later in the video and I correct myself :)
I like Natasha hero unit personally. While she won't cause as much mayhem as Tanya or Yuriko in the middle of enemy base, she has great range to compensate. I'd rather have a commando take out few key units/structures out from a safe distance rather than have them up close and at high risk of dying. Raw power-wise though Yuriko ftw.
Fair enough :)
I miss these games. C&C, Warcraft, even KKND. Strategy games nowadays can't even remotly compete imho.
What makes them unable to compete? What about games like D.O.R.F. set to release in the near future?
Personally I'm waiting for Global Conflagration. Played the demo for just a few games during Steamfest, made me invest in the project almost immediately. Plays, looks and feels very closely to Generals with some twists.
@@Jedrex899 I'll have to keep an eye out for it!
Would have made more sense as one of the east coast cities.
Vladivostok is right there!
I always love the irony of George Takei being put in an internment camp as a child over the premise that all asians would be japanese collaborators and then in 2010 or so he's the emperor of super japan.
Natasha 100% can swim.
PRAISE KANE FOR HE HATH RETURNED TO US
😊
The game is indeed very much too sexualized. Even as a dumb and horny young guy I realized that.
gamespy was GARBAGE! Sofia > Dasha :D
I wonder who’s going to win 🧐
Don't ask me, the episodes so old I forgot when I exported it to youtube 🤣🤣
this video should be mandatory to watch before buying the game
To convince them to buy an Idris, yeah?
You just _know_ the Guardian Tank has a teakettle sitting on their engine at all times.
100% Who has the biscuits though?
This has got to be the most cringeworthy tutorial out of all RTS games lol. Also - Hammer Tank did nothing wrong.
Hammer Tank is innocent! And yeah it seems designed for people who have never touched a video game before which... I would be shocked to ever find that individual.
I enjoyed the dialog with the tanks
@@tysoncrotty7426 its just so loonngg :(
8 years later and this will never not be funny..I wonder if he ever even touches the game or just collects some checks and dips..

what a DISASTER playthrough

...does the waypoint command work on the particle cannon?
I dont believe so, why?
@@JobboFett It would allow plotting a path for the beam without having to pay attention the whole time it's firing.
@@noatrope you can click a location after its started firing to move it and then unselect it in order to take out multiple bldgs but thats it afaik
There's a reason this mission is the one on the box art. I realised thanks to a Jacob Geller video some months ago that the "stolen orbital death ray turned against its controllers' carrier fleet" is an Akira homage, at least indirectly.
(I think the cleverness of the map and the islandhopping is one of the most memorable (positive) parts of the mission, so your mileage may vary, I guess.)
I think this is the closest Lotus gets to having her own focus mission :( You can clear out the town with at most maybe one casualty by having rangers flashbang the leftmost building, then garrison it to clear out the adjacent buildings, and repeat, using the empty buildings as cover when necessary. This also levels up the rangers extremely quickly, for as useful as that is, and leaves the buildings intact for missile defenders when the vehicle patrol returns.
If theres one thing to be said about Generals is that I don't recall it making it easy to select/use individual powers like the flashbangs when you select a group. I'll never get perfect play for a C&C game no matter how I try!
@@JobboFett Yeah, you have to select ONLY the rangers. But you don't need them to go back to their guns until they've cleared the town, and the other troops are just potential casualties in that section anyway - they don't have much to do besides destroy the radar van and then set up camp in the northwest buildings once the rangers are finished. (If it required more micro than that I wouldn't have been able to make it work myself. :P And I NEED as much as I can get with how many I lose trying to move north from there.)
@@noatrope i prefer the tried and true brute force X number of attempts until it works :P
@@JobboFett How do you think I figured this out
Stupid tricks: If you're careful not to stand in front of it, you can garrison the missile train. I can't remember if it needed a hijacker specifically, and it doesn't actually let you control how it moves. But it does let you stuff it full of infantry to use as a slowly-moving bunker, which is funny.
Also, slightly more useful, Generals does let you assign buildings to groups the same way as units, which makes an almost-functional substitute for superweapon abilities not appearing in the powers sidebar.
@@noatrope hah! That's pretty cool.
Still haven't finished replaying Tiberian Sun yet, but since the complete series just rereleased on Steam I'm paying attention to your LP series again too. :P The C&C:G campaigns don't have a lot of story to them, but I like that they're sequential to each other because of the geopolitics of the setting - first China successfully expels the GLA from its imperial territories, then the GLA regroups and strikes back, attracting the ire of the USA in the process, then the USA sweeps in and finishes them off while China fortifies itself. And then Zero Hour does the same thing backwards - the GLA keeps moving westward and the US and China switch roles. Considering how much of a jingoistic political time capsule so much of the game is, it makes a few surprising narrative choices, possibly by accident.
Generals was jingoistic but Zero Hour took the premise and elevated it beyond anything it had any right to being. The fact that a Generals 2 existed and was cancelled is such a shame, and C&C in general has had its fair share of cancelled IPs and sequels (Tiberium being another example). Its why I really want to do a mod showcase at some point, because there are teams out there doing awesome work to flesh out concepts and bring cancelled work to light.
@@JobboFett Mm, that's probably a good way of thinking about it. The expansion adds so much to the base game that it's hard for me to think about the latter as complete in itself. And it still does things like the actual core of the conflict is between China and the GLA, and the US is just sort of also there - as a side effect of pretending that terrorists are never, ever actually a threat to America, of course, but it leaves them oddly detached from the plot and un-compelling.
the entire c&c collection saga got added to steam, you know what you have to do
Considering I'm already at Red Alert 3, I'd say I'd just be continuing things. Sucks that they focus on letting people pay a subscription, but glad that EA's Origin launcher is dead...
@@JobboFett when are you going to post red alert 3 videos btw?
@@dragostocai973 After I start recording them :(

It has been a while since I posted a video, huh? I have to admit I hit a rough spot while in the process of doing the Project Wingman stuff - I'll get back to some video work this month. No promises on when RA3 will hit the 'tube, but it'll come!
Ahh, one of the rare times Chris Roberts attempted to play his own "dream game" lol And why is this the only place you can find this video on YT? This needs to be on more channels.

Bumbling moron, him and his band of merry thieves all need firing from the project and let someone else in who knows how to finish and game, and hire some devs who know how to fix bugs..some of these minor but player game breaking bugs have been an issue for over ten years , how the hell does this even happen with the team this pratt has behind him....I've also noticed how the majority of the game always plays that little bit better when there's an expo on ie more fresh players to sink their teeth into, now the expo has finished, it's abck to the same old crap, 30k s are back , refineries are just about dead, mining is a mess and I haven't even got to the rest of the mess.
As ridiculous as this is, that was cool. And you got him good!
Just found your channel, can't believe how much ASL content you have, loved this video, I'll be watching more - you know your stuff .
Thanks for the kind words! There's plenty more to add, but I've been slacking on publishing them.
The best part for me was when he got annoyed that his game froze after playing for 15 minutes. He doesn't have anything to lose in-game and all he did was undock and quantum to another station. He gets frustrated when the game crashes within 15 minutes. Other players have to put up with bugs like this every single time they play and likely multiple times per session. He can't even put up with playing his own game. If even he doesn't want to play it, then who does?
Its also that his game crashing makes him look bad, I'm sure it wasn't just because he lost a little bit of progress. Makes you wonder why hes never done another gameplay stream though...
I like how at the start there is a visible reason to go in any of the landing zones - left one has gems, top right is the closest (meaning the least potential fighting to get there) and the bottom has oil derricks. I wish more RTS games gave you similar decisions in missions, and not just have you always start at a fixed position.
One viable way to beat this mission is to mass War Miners - they are immune to mind control, tanky and quite deadly on full veterancy (since they gain anti-everything attack). Since you can easily gain veterancy here with all the Yuri Clones/Initiates roaming around you can just build like 5-10 of them, max them out and then annihilate anything short of garrisoned Initiates (those can still lay hurt).
